About WEBppliance LH 2.3

WEBppliance LH 2.3 can quickly convert a basic Linux server into a robust Web hosting appliance that is easily managed through user interfaces. WEBppliance LH 2.3 is packaged with core Web hosting server applications, which allows hosting providers to offer a full range of services, such as Web server, mail server, FTP server, DNS server, and site security to their customers. WEBppliance LH 2.3 also includes administration tools, such as a file manager, user manager, and backup manager.

WEBppliance LH 2.3 provides separate browser-based user interfaces for three levels of users. These interfaces allow users to easily manage all of their Web hosting administrative tasks. Depending on your role, you might be using WEBppliance LH on more than one management level. The management levels are:

The appliance level

The appliance level of administration is designed for the hosting provider or reseller who either owns server hardware or has remote access to the server. As an appliance owner, called the Appliance Administrator, you can set up your server with Web hosting capabilities, configure the domain server applications for customers, create and manage new domains, and automate many frequently performed administrative tasks.

You will use the Appliance Administrator user interface to manage your appliance level tasks.

The domain level

The domain level of administration is designed for businesses who want to manage their domains. As a domain owner, called the Site Administrator, you can manage the available hosted services. You can set up security features for a domain or individual Web site, manage users on a domain or an individual Web site, set up directories on the Apache Web server, manage domain email and FTP capabilities, back up and restore domain files, and supervise the directories and files on your domain.

You will use the Site Administrator user interface to manage your domain level tasks.

Note: The Appliance Administrator automatically has access to the Site Administrator user interface.

The subscriber level

The subscriber level of administration is designed for a user account on the domain. As a subscriber, called the User Administrator, you can log into your subscriber user interface, manage your email account, publish your Web site content, and back up and restore your Web site files.

You will use the User Administrator user interface to manage your subscriber level tasks.
