Checking the domain configuration

Before you make the domain available to users, you might want to check the domain's configuration for accuracy. If you see an error in any parameter, contact your service provider to have it corrected.

To check the domain configuration:

  1. On the Site Administrator page, click Site Summary in the index on the left.
  2. The Site Summary window opens.

  3. Click Configuration .
  4. The Configuration window opens, showing the current configuration for your domain. Table 2-1 describes the parameters shown in the configuration.

Site name

The name of your domain

IP Address

The IP address of your domain

Email Contact

The email address of the Site Administrator for the domain

Site Administrator Username

The user ID of the Site Administrator for the domain

Status

Whether or not the domain is available

Max Users

The maximum number of users who can work on this domain

Disk Used/Available

The amount, in Megabytes, of disk space that is currently being used by the domain, and the disk space still available

Server Names

The names of the Apache Web server and the FTP server for your domain

The Enabled Services & Options section indicates the server applications and utilities that are available on your domain. A check mark beside the application/utility indicates that it is available.

Table 2-2 shows the server applications available and what each application does.

Analog Web/FTP Log Analyzer

Provides analyses of Web and FTP server use.

Apache Web Server

Provides Web server support to the domain.

Web Log Generation

Generates logs of customer statistics and errors.

CGI

Grants users scripting privileges to run CGI scripts on their Web pages.

FrontPage Extensions

Installs the components necessary to run Microsoft® FrontPage® for content authoring.

Server Side Includes

Allows the Site Administrator to create .shtml Web pages.

Secure Web (SSL)

(IP-based domains only.) Provides the domain with secure Web pages. (The Site Administrator must apply for the SSL certificate.)

Backup/Restore

Grants the Site Administrator and users backup and restore functions for their files.

File Manager

Provides file managements tools with which customers can access and create directories to store Web pages and other files.

POP3 + IMAP

Grants users access to their mail from remote mail clients.

Email Access

Provides email services.

Mailing List Manager

Provides Majordomo tool for creating and editing mailing lists.

Vacation

Allows email users to create and edit vacation messages to respond to incoming email.

Note: This feature is available only to users on IP-based domains who have Telnet access.

Telnet Access

Grants users access to the domain using Telnet communications.

Note: Name-based domains support Telnet access from the Site Administrator only.

FTP Access

Grants users FTP access for transferring files.

Note: Name-based domains have FTP access from the Site Administrator only. Other users can upload files to the domain using the File Manager's upload feature.

Anonymous FTP

Grants anonymous FTP users access to the FTP server. Available to IP-based domains only.
